Make A Difference

The problems related to substance abuse and addictions may seem overwhelming, but together, and individually, we can make a difference. Every effort, even the smallest, will raise awareness, increase the focus, help reduce the stigma, and change New Hampshire for the better.

We welcome support and participation in a variety of ways.  Our members are people in addiction recovery joined with others who work on behalf of recovery persons

We inform: We provide speakers and education about recovery issues. Speakers share their experience of being public about their addiction and their recovery

We speak up: We offer forums to share personal stories. These voices need to be heard.

We celebrate: We put on public events to showcase the possibilities of recovery.

What Can You Do?

How can you help?

· Start by talking with one person or a small group. Expand your audience as you become comfortable speaking. Speak publicly or privately with your city council, your state government, legislators and other officials.

· Learn about substance abuse related issues and laws in New Hampshire and in the nation so that you are an informed advocate

· Tell your story. Talk about recovery and how you achieved it. Describe the situation in your community and the kinds of barriers that prevent many people from getting treatment. People rarely see the faces of recovering alcoholics and addicts. They need to see first hand that treatment works.

· Write letters to local newspapers responding to an issue such as service reductions, access to treatment and recovery issues, or on relevant topics such as expanding insurance coverage for the treatment of addiction and alcoholism.

· Establish a relationship with your Senator or Representative and attend public hearings

· Help to organize awareness and educational events on the local and/or state level

· Become involved in the organization and development of FORNH

· While there are many ways that an individual can participate, all who can are asked to contribute yearly dues to support FORNH activities.
